Newlands Rotaract Club
The Claremont Night Shelter provides a haven for street children who are attempting to move off the streets. It is situated behind Pick 'n Pay in Claremont, and shelters about 20 boys between the ages of 12 and 18 - they are fed, given a bed, and attend school every day. However, on weekends, they don't have a lot to do - which is where we fit in.

We try to take the kids on an outing once a month, either for an outdoor activity, or to some sort of show. For example, we have taken them for a hike up the mountain, and we have taken them to watch a Western Province Rugby match. The idea is to provide the kids with some of the experiences we enjoy and often take for granted.

The Night Shelter is not intended as a permanent solution, and they aim to move the kids out as soon as possible, back into a "normal life".
